It is with great excitement and thought that I introduce my new practice: New Leaf Counseling Services by Keith Wilson. Many of you may know me through my work with The Robert J. Murney Clinic operated by Forest Institute of Psychology. Sadly, with the news of Forest closing in the Summer of 2015 it will force us to examine a huge gap that will be left in mental health services in the Ozarks -- a resource that the community has depended on for more than thirty years. I believe by professionals reaching out to each other and relying on our collective knowledge and fundamental skills we can continue to make a difference.
I graduated from Missouri State University's Counseling Department with a Masters in 2011. I received my internship at Ozarks Counseling Center and did my post graduate clinical hours work with Dr. Jennifer Baker at The Robert J. Murney Clinic. Since that time I have continued graduate studies in Special Education and Autism Studies. New Leaf Counseling will build on these skills and continue to offer specializations in child play therapy, Autism psychoeducation and therapy, teen and young adult behavioral therapy, bi-polar disorders, individual and couples counseling, LGBT client centered therapy, and expressive arts therapy.
Personally I enjoy creative writing, reading (I gained a BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from MSU), cooking (I have a catering company), traveling, and I'm a huge comic book and superhero geek.

Vanessa Irons, MS, LPC
I am a native of southwest Missouri, graduating from Missouri State University in 1987 with a BS in Psychology. In 2009, after working 25 years in corporate management, I decided to make a “quality of life” change and went to work for a national non-profit as an Employee Trainer and Coordinator. Though very fulfilled by the people I served, in 2011, I decided I wanted to serve people in a different way- improving the quality of their lives through mental health counseling. In 2013, I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute am serving a wide range of clients while completing my post graduate clinical work at The Robert J. Murney Clinic, New Leaf Counseling, and Clear Path Counseling. I specialize in working with adolescents with self-harming behaviors; adults dealing with depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem; parents in need of parenting skills training; and couples with relationship disillusionment and communication issues. I have facilitated groups on anger management and grief and can also create a wellness plan for you, your family, or your company. If you, your partner, or your family are ready to work toward wellness, I will be happy to talk with you about your goals. |

I began my college education with a Bachelor’s in Electronic Arts at Missouri State University because music and art have always been a huge part of my life. Art for me was an inner journey, and I found that what I wanted to do for a career is to connect with others who are on their own inner journey. I continued my education and received a Master’s in School Counseling at Evangel University. I then provided school counseling and guidance services for seven years, mostly at an urban high school in Springfield, Missouri, where I worked closely with the English Language Learner population. In 2020, I began working at Lakeland Behavioral Health with parents and families experiencing a mental health crisis, doing intake assessments in-person and by phone. In 2021, I began counseling in private practice under the supervision of Keith Wilson at New Leaf Counseling. I work primarily with 14 year-olds and older, doing mostly individual therapy with an emphasis in depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues.
